Mark Salmon came to Lake Tahoe 11 years ago after growing up in Southern California. Mark attended high school and college in San Diego where his passion and focus were in Architecture. After 4 years of Computer Aided Drafting, he was accepted to High Tech Institute in Pheonix, Arizona. The pressure of leaving such a pleasant climate for the desert country was too much and he decided to attend a local 4 year school instead to continue his Architectural dreams. During his second year of school, he decided to take a quarter off and seek some adventure in the mountains of Lake Tahoe where he never left and still calls it home today.
Although employment opportunities were scarce for a nineteen year old in the fall of ’95, a position at a local lumber became available. It wasn’t quite as lucrative as owning a coastal architectural firm, but it was still somewhat in the industry and the view was tough to beat while he stacked lumber, day in and day out. It wasn’t long before he pushed up through the ranks to later become the highest grossing salesman in the West Coast for Meek’s Lumber Company.
It was during his first year at the lumber yard that Mark met his soul mate, Amber. She was a true local girl as she grew up in Tahoe. Two years later, they were married with their first of two daughters on the way. Mark’s family became his true driving force to becoming successful. They soon bought their first home as the real estate boom was looming. Mark decided it was best to pick up a second job to keep his wife at home with their newborn baby.
It was during his last years selling sticks and sheets that Mark recognized the growing opportunities in building custom homes. It was with the birth of their second daughter and growing equity in their first home that they decided to try their hand at building and constructed a custom new home for themselves. With its successful completion, Mark quit his night job and jumped into construction with both feet. Over a five year period he oversaw the construction of nearly a dozen successful homes and all during his final years at the Lumber yard.
With the need for increased independence to pursue new ventures, Mark left Meek’s lumber in August of 2005. It was now at 29 years old that he would take on the world without the comforts of a 9 to 5 job and a steady paycheck. Months prior to leaving the Meek’s team, he had decided to take the California state realtor’s exam to hopefully have a realtor’s license to add to his accolades. After successfully passing the state exam, Mark moved forward with building, waiting for the right opportunity to put the new license into play.
That opportunity presented itself at the end of 2006 with the arrival of a new independent brokerage, Pinnacle Real Estate Group of Lake Tahoe. This group was a collection of top producing local teams that have experienced huge success in Tahoe real estate for over 20 years. It was not just the success of the group that interested Mark; it was the push for a true team effort and the feelings of camaraderie. The chance to be mentored by the area’s best Realtors combined with his extensive knowledge of construction provides quite the package to a buyer or seller.
