I discovered Oriental while on a boating trip back in the early 1980s, and immediately fell in love with the area. Oriental quickly became my weekend and holiday destination to relax from the hectic work week. It didn't take long before my wife began wondering where I was going so often when she had to work and I didn't. We both came for a weekend, and she fell in love with the area just as I had.

We became property owners here in 1992, and have been fixtures in the community ever since. After retirement from my position as Postmaster in another city, we moved aboard our sailboat and travelled the east coast for 5 years before moving into our little house in the village.
