Ms. Marchany has a Bachelors’ Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from the University of Puerto Rico graduating in 1971, Magna Cum Laude. She is a certified public accountant since 1972, recognized in 1975 by the College of Certified Public Accountants of Puerto Rico as one of the pioneer women to obtain the national CPA certification. In 1994 she was recognized as the Distinguished CPA in the Health Insurance Industry. She is also a Health Insurance Associate (HIA) since 1994, which is the designation conferred by the Health Insurance Association of America to specialists in the field.
She commenced her professional career in the national accounting firm of Arthur Andersen & Co. in which she was employed from 1971 to 1979, and attained the position of Senior Audit Manager. From 1979 to 1983, she acted as the Finance Director of the Puerto Rico Power Electric Authority and subsequently, promoted in 1983 to Associate Executive Director for Administration as head of all the non technical areas.
In 1985, she commenced her employment with Blue Cross of Puerto Rico (BCPR) as Finance Vice President (CFO) and in 1987 promoted to Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer (COO). In 1998, after the conversion of BCPR from a nonprofit to a for profit organization, she became the President of the newly formed stock insurance company. She was also a member of its Board of Directors and Executive Committee. After leaving the position in 2001, she organized a family corporation dedicated to wholesale sales and distribution of computer parts.
In 2004, she was engaged as a consultant and thereafter, as Executive Vice President, for Clinical Medical Services, Inc. (CMS) a) to organize the local operations of this rapidly growing service provider organization, leader in the durable medical equipment industry, servicing primarily Medicare Advantage beneficiaries, and b) to successfully administer the demanding operational needs of an exclusive contract with the major Medicare Advantage company in Puerto Rico.
She is at present dedicated to rendering independent consulting work d/b/a Managerial and Business Solutions in her main areas of endeavor and experience, business financial and managerial advisory services, principally in the health services industry.
Ms. Marchany has been member of the Board of Directors of several organizations such as the Insurance Companies Association (ACODESE) (1991-2001), Advisory Board to the Insurance Commissioner of Puerto Rico representing the health insurance industry (1997-2001), Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Small Business Association. Also, she has acted as member of the Governing Board of community organizations such as, Puerto Rico Humane Society, Puerto Rico Heart Association and YMCA.
She has been the recipient of professional awards and recognitions as Outstanding Women in Public Service (1994), Distinguished CPA in the Health Insurance Industry (1994), Distinguished Businesswoman in the Health Insurance Industry (El Nuevo DĂa-2000), Zenith Award in the Insurance Industry (PR Chamber of Commerce-2000), Entrepreneur of the Year (Chamber of Wholesale Businesses- 2001) and Distinguished Businesswoman in the Health Industry (Primera Hora-2006).
